The New School Department of Media Studies and Film
The New School's Graduate Certificate in Documentary Media Studies is one year of full-time graduate study on location in the heart of New York City. Immerse yourself in a dynamic curriculum that integrates the history of documentary filmmaking, the social and artistic implications of the form, and the digital video techniques you'll utilize to produce, direct, and edit your own 15- to 30-minute documentary.
Designed for college graduates and working professionals interested in pursuing a career in documentary filmmaking or improving their skills and knowledge of this powerful medium, this unique program offers hands-on experience and extensive one-on-one interaction from a core faculty of working professionals as well as renowned visiting artists, including D.A. Penebaker and Peter Davis.
Upon completion of this one year intensive, students may pursue a professional career in documentary filmmaking, earn a master's degree--including the master's degree in Media Studies at The New School where they may apply their documentary studies credits, or use their documentary skills to advance their work with social, political, or community organizations.
